East Prairie Settlement Association
East Prairie Metis Settlement is one of eight Metis Settlements located in Northern Alberta, specifically situated in Big Lakes County, approximately 20 km south of Highway 2 and 168 km east of Grande Prairie. Founded in 1939, this area has been traditionally inhabited by the Metis long before its official establishment, encompassing a land area of 33,444 hectares and serving a population of just under a thousand residents as of the 2009 municipal census.
The governance of the Settlement is led by a council, including a chair and several councillors, dedicated to serving the needs of the community. As a significant cultural and administrative entity, East Prairie Metis Settlement plays a vital role in upholding Metis traditions and addressing the challenges faced by its inhabitants.
