Laramie, WY 82070

Located in Laramie, Wyoming, the historic Laramie Railroad Depot has a rich past dating back to its construction in 1924. This architectural gem replaced the original Union Pacific Depot/Hotel that succumbed to a fire in 1917. Serving as Laramie's Union Pacific passenger depot until 1971, it continued its legacy as an Amtrak depot until 1983. A significant piece of history, the Union Pacific Railroad entrusted the Depot to the Laramie Plains Museum in 1985, later passing ownership to the Laramie Railroad Depot Association in 2009.

Today, the Depot not only stands as a symbol of the town's heritage but also serves as a vibrant community hub. Inside its walls, a captivating museum showcases a trove of railroad memorabilia, while the versatile space hosts an array of events like music concerts, art exhibits, and public meetings. Beyond its historical allure, the Depot plays a vital role in sustaining itself by offering rentals for weddings, banquets, and other gatherings—a testament to its enduring presence in the heart of Laramie.

I have to admit, I ride Amtrak, so I'm kinda partial to trains, so seeing this Depot, lovingly restored and cared for was something of a treat. There are all kinds of memorabilia on the walls....

Laramie Kempo Karate Club

A martial arts club for the Laramie community, providing traditional martial arts instruction in the Laramie community since 1985. Kyoshi Amber Travsky opened the Laramie Kempo Karate Club in 1985. We offer traditional martial arts instruction to both youth and adults, ages 6 and up. Our goal is to provide affordable martial arts instruction in a relaxed but focused atmosphere. Amber Travskys instructor, Grand Master Stephen Blackburn, had taught in Laramie for a number of years and had established the Okinawa Kempo School. When he moved to Virginia, he passed on the club to another black belt but promoted Ms. Travsky to Shodan 1st dan black belt before leaving. Ms. Travsky continued with the Okinawa Kempo Club until choosing to establish a separate dojo. Affilitations Our dojo is affiliated, through Master Amber Travsky, with Lau Hau Kenpo. Soke James M. Lloyd retired is the founder of Lao Hau Kenpo. In the summer of 2011, Mr. Lloyd turned over the reins of the organization to Grand Master and Soki Stephen Blackburn. Lao Hau Kenpo, or tiger kenpo, has as its very basis a focus on good life values, rather than being centered around kicks and punches. Kyoshi Amber Travsky has taught the martial arts classes for the University of Wyoming beginning in 1985. The Laramie Kempo Karate Club was started due to interest from students attending the UW classes. Below are a couple of campus newspaper articles about the early years of the Laramie Kempo Club.
