Heart Mountain Irrigation District
The Heart Mountain Irrigation District (HMID) operates within the Shoshone Project in Wyoming, managing water resources for local agricultural lands. Established in 1958, HMID oversees the distribution of water from the Buffalo Bill Dam and Reservoir, supporting the cultivation of over 1,700 acres in the Heart Mountain division.
The division was constructed between 1936 and 1948, with significant contributions from Japanese evacuees during World War II. Initially opened to veterans of World War II, the region has a rich history of irrigation development, stemming from early attempts in the late 19th century by notable figures such as Colonel William F. Cody.
