He started his accounting career with McGladrey, Hansen, Dunn and Company (now McGladrey & Pullen, LLC), in Iowa City, IA. In 1977, he moved back to Wyoming and joined the CPA firm of Bailey, Robirds, Nichols and Associates in Powell as a supervisor.
