History

In 1916, a UW student wrote an undergraduate thesis proposing the creation of Neighborhood House to meet the needs of the growing Greenbush community. 100+ years later, Neighborhood House upholds the tradition of being a welcoming space for people of all backgrounds and strives to create opportunities for the greater Madison area.

Specialties

Backed by its 100+ year history, Neighborhood House Community Center provides affording meeting spaces for an eclectic collection of local groups, and it sponsors its own programs that are open to the public. Examples of groups and programs that utilize Neighborhood House are language learning, mental health, community dinners, world cultures, after school mentoring, music and dance, faith-based, martial arts, summer camp, and writing. Neighborhood House also partners with the community to host collections for school supplies, winter wear, Thanksgiving baskets, and holiday gifts.

This place is a gem! We learned of it when my kids started taking judo lessons with Madison Judo, who uses the gym several days a week for training. We've gotten to know the staff and see...
