The Washington County Jail is a 200-bed facility that opened in 1993. The jail is operated by the jail administrator and the assistant jail administrator, a variety of full-time and part-time correctional officers and nearly 10 correctional sergeants. The Washington County Jail also utilizes approximately five full-time programs coordinators, and nearly 10 full-time and part-time nurses, as well as more than 20 unpaid volunteers in various positions. The jail s medical unit has a dentist's office, an x-ray facility and several examination rooms. The Washington County Jail offers general equivalency diploma and other educational opportunities, chemical abuse counseling, library services, religious guidance and recreational activities.
