Shapiro & Duncan is the culmination of three generations of plumbers and mechanical contractors. In the mid-1930s Jake Shapiro started J. Shapiro Plumbing & Heating in Washington, D.C. After Jake retired, his son, David, a mechanical engineer, organized a mechanical contracting company in 1976 known as Shapiro & Duncan. In the early 90s, David s sons, Jerry and Sheldon, assumed operation of the company. Shapiro & Duncan continues to complete renovation projects but has added new construction, office buildings, government and industrial development projects to its portfolio. It has completed nearly 2,000 projects through the years. The main office in Rockville houses the management, including information technology, purchasing, education, safety, accounting and human resources and construction groups, including estimators, project managers and support personnel, the service department and design-build teams. The fabrication shop is in Beltsville, Md.
