Established in 1872, Concord University offers a variety of educational and extracurricular programs and activities. The university contributes to the quality of cultural and economic life in southern West Virginia through collaborations with public and private organizations and agencies, and through extension of its support and assistance into the region it serves. It offers various educational programs, including courses in accounting, administrative systems, advertising and graphic design, advertising and public relations, Appalachian studies, studio art, athletic training, broadcasting and journalism, biology, business administration, chemistry, communication arts, computer information systems, mathematics, correctional rehabilitation and early childhood special education. Garden City Elementary School is a learning center that is a part of Roanoke City Public Schools, which operates nearly 30 schools with a combined enrollment of more than 13,000 students. The school provides educational services to over 300 students in prekindergarten through fifth grade. Garden City Elementary School s staff includes nurses, reading specialists, guidance counselors, librarians, special educators, art and music professionals, and physical and health education instructors.
