Cascade Door & Hardware was founded in 1976 by Mr. Lloyd Wold of Everett, WA. The original name, Cascade Steel Door, began as a division of Wold Hardware. Wold Hardware began in 1950. Along with consumer goods, Cascade Steel Door also offered Door Hardware to General Contractors. The addition of the Steelcraft line of Doors and Frames required the creation of Cascade and the integration of the Hardware business with the new Door and Frame business. With the completion of this transition, the company was founded. For the next five years, Cascade was owned and operated by the Wold family. During that time, Cascade established a dominance in the Commercial Door and Hardware markets of Snohomish, Skagit, Whatcom, and Island Counties. Many of the client relationships that Cascade enjoys today were established during the Wold Hardware - Cascade Steel Door era. In 1981, Mr. Wold reached retirement and sold Cascade to Mr. Larry Straker. Larry, a longtime employee of the Steelcraft door and frame company, had been involved with Cascade as a vendor and was very knowledgeable about the industry and the local market. During Mr. Straker's ownership, Cascade grew to include King and Pierce counties, and brought Cascade into regional recognition as reliable supplier to the Puget Sound construction community. Through his boundless energy and determination, Mr. Straker brought Cascade into the computer age and prepared it to take its place as a leader in the Door, Frame, and Hardware industry. With his retirement looming, Mr. Straker realized that he could not lead Cascade to the next stage and sold the company in 2001 to the Walters and Wolf group of companies. Walters and Wolf, an industry leader in the supply and installation of Doors, Frames, and Hardware in Northern California, acquired Cascade with the intent of spreading its unique business model to the Seattle-Tacoma market place. Cascade moved its operations to Mukilteo, WA and began the process of becoming a supply and install door company. After the September 11th attacks, the commercial construction market in the Seattle area went into recession and Cascade struggled to adapt its new business model to the changed business environment. After 5 years of difficulty in implementing its plan, Walters and Wolf decided to sell Cascade to one of its longtime employees. In 2006, Glenn Bayha, along with his wife Jill, purchased the assets of Cascade Door and Hardware. Upon completion of the transaction, Cascade moved to a temporary location in Arlington, WA. Today, Cascade continues to serve the Puget Sound construction community with the same quality products and service that have been our tradition, as established by our founders. Currently, Cascade is under construction of its new home, a 14, 500 square foot facility in the City of Arlington. The new building is designed to meet the specific needs of the company's operations. With attention to future planning, the building will provide additional space for intended company growth. In an effort to achieve "Green Building" design, Cascade and its design team intend to utilize cutting-edge techniques for on-site water filtration, and use recycled building materials in the construction of the building. As a local supplier of "Green Building Materials, " Cascade intends to incorporate many of those construction techniques into the new facility. An expected move-in date of November, 2008 will be announced in future website updates.
