Sanitary Service Company

In 1929, Sanitary Service Company opened with five employees and more than 500 customers. The company now employs more than 75 people and serves nearly 35,000 commercial and residential customers in Bellingham, Ferndale, Birch Bay and the majority of Whatcom County in Washington. The company was originally City Sanitary Service and collected garbage from local residents and businesses by horse and wagon. Locally owned and operated, Sanitary Service Company and its subsidiary, Recycling Services, is one of Whatcom County's largest full-service recycling and waste collection companies. SSC provides a line of prompt and dependable waste collection services, recycling collection services and special services for residential, multifamily and commercial customers. It also offers a variety of waste containers that include toters, containers and drop boxes; recycling containers that include stacking bins; and special service containers that include roll-off containers, portable storage containers, portable toilets and portable wash stands. Sanitary Service Company is headquartered in Bellingham, Wash.
