In addition, LMTAAA staff, board and council members advocate for an effective system of long-term care services, collaborating with policy makers and other social service agencies. The LMTAAA was created through the collaborative action of Lewis, Mason and Thurston Counties in 1976. LMTAAA is a governmental agency, sponsored and governed by the three county governments. The LMTAAA Board, referred to as the Council of Governments (CoG), is comprised of one county commissioner from each of the three sponsoring counties. The LMTAAA Advisory Council, with equal representation of citizens from each county, makes recommendations to the CoG and staff. The agency operates three offices in the three county area, in Olympia, Shelton, and Chehalis. LMTAAA purchases services from private and public agencies and arranges for service delivery for individuals who meet eligibility requirements. LMTAAA utilizes a variety of state, federal and local funding sources including the Federal Older Americans Act, Medicaid, Respite, State Family Caregiver Support Program, the State Senior Citizens Services Act and individual and community donations.
