Mount Rainier National Park in Packwood, WA is home to the most heavily glaciated peak in the contiguous United States. With over twenty different climbing routes and ski descents, this 14,410-foot active volcano offers an exciting challenge to mountaineers. Climbers must be in excellent physical condition and possess technical glacier-travel rope skills to safely ascend and descend the mountain.
COVID-19 restrictions are currently in place, and climbers are required to pay the Annual Climbing Fee and obtain a Climbing Permit in-person at Mount Rainier National Park. The Climbing Fee helps support search and rescue incidents, ranger stations, and waste management on the mountain. Reservations for Climbing Permits can be made in advance, but a limited number of permits are also available on a first-come, first-served basis at the ranger stations inside the park.
