The Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute (LHPAI) is a historic landmark in Seattle's Central Area, originally built in 1915 as a Jewish synagogue and later transformed into a community center. After extensive renovations in 2011, LHPAI now serves as a community facility that offers event rentals and hosts various programs. In partnership with the non-profit organization LANGSTON, LHPAI continues to be a center for African American arts and culture in Seattle, while also housing the Central District Forum for Arts Ideas and The Historic Central Area Arts and Cultural District.

LANGSTON, the non-profit arts organization based at LHPAI, is dedicated to preserving and promoting African American arts and culture in Seattle. With a vision to become a thriving arts organization, LANGSTON serves as a steward for an African American arts and cultural hub in the city. Through programming partnerships and community engagement, LANGSTON aims to create a vibrant and inclusive arts scene that celebrates the rich heritage of African American artists and performers.
