Intracranial Hypertension Research Foundation
The Intracranial Hypertension Research Foundation (IHRF) is a non-profit organization based in Vancouver, WA. They are dedicated to advocating for, collaborating with, and supporting new medical research for individuals affected by chronic intracranial hypertension (IH), formerly known as pseudotumor cerebri and benign intracranial hypertension. Their mission is to expand knowledge about IH, including idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) and secondary IH, while fostering medical research that will lead to better treatments and ultimately a cure.
The IHRF offers education and support for individuals with chronic IH, their families, physicians, medical professionals, and researchers. They aim to answer questions about chronic IH, which can be a lifelong disorder and is considered a rare disease. Chronic IH is characterized by high cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pressure within the skull, resulting in symptoms such as vision loss, extreme pain, and life-altering disability. The IHRF also previously ran the first global patient registry for chronic IH patients, known as the IH Registry, in partnership with Oregon Health Science University (OHSU).
