IPC is involved in the community and the world. We share our space with many community groups. As a congregation, we encourage the involvement and participation of members and friends in the life of the church, the community and the world. Our members are involved in programs to fight hunger, work for justice and improve the environment. IPC History Immanuel Presbyterian Church was chartered on Jan. 28, 1888 as the Second Presbyterian Church of Tacoma. The first pastor, the Reverend Thomas MacGuire led 21 members. The name changed to Immanuel Presbyterian Church in December 1892 and the present building was designed by Russell and Babcock and was dedicated in 1909. The church school building was added in 1929. Immanuel Presbyterian Church is a welcoming, accepting community of Christians who find joy in worship and service to others. We believe we are called by the Holy Spirit to demonstrate God's love to all people.
