Palliative, or supportive care, is medical care focused on relief of the pain, symptoms and stress of serious illnesses like cancer, dementia, heart disease, lung disease and multiple sclerosis. Unlike hospice, palliative care is appropriate for patients in all disease stages, including those undergoing treatment for curable illnesses and people living with chronic diseases, as well as patients who are nearing the end of life and in need of comfort care.

Infectious diseases can be spread from one person to another either directly or indirectly. Anyone can get them. Sometimes referred to as communicable diseases, they are most commonly caused by bacteria, fungi, viruses and parasites. Infectious diseases can be contagious.
