GRACE GOW

History

As a visual artist and metalsmith, I create works that connect its wearer to the primal power of the sea, reflected through my personal experience. We are made of water. It's what gives us life. It moves with us as the full moon pushes and a low tide pulls. My practice is closely linked to the natural environment of my seaside home of Vashon Island and childhood memories in Long Beach Island, New Jersey. This is contrasted with the urban experience of having lived and worked in Philadelphia, Atlanta, and, for many years, Seattle. The most revealing aspect of this approach is the repurposing of found beach objects that the sea has changed. The entire transformation process--from conception to initial drawing to stone selection to wax carving to casting, polishing, and finishing--is intrinsically woven into my life as an artist. The causes influence my work at the nexus of climate change and how this affects our lives daily.

Specialties

Design and Carve Your Own Ring Workshop + Kit. We give couples the opportunity to create their own original wedding rings by hand, capably guided by metalsmith and designer Cat McCadden. Cat welcomes you to an in-person or virtual hands-on ring carving workshop where she'll lead you from the initial design process through fabrication, metal choices, gemstone setting, and beyond. Rings carved by hand are truly unique, and over time their significance grows with memories, just like you and your love. Cat's mission is to use her creative artistry and knowledge of jewelry construction to help you both to create your own unique wedding rings. She deeply cares about the experience of carving the rings being as significant to the couple as the rings themselves. GRACE GOW is based in Vashon Island and Seattle, on the watery edges of Washington State.
