Drumheller Fountain, nestled within the University of Washington campus in Seattle, Washington, stands as a tribute to University Regent Joseph Drumheller since 1961. This outdoor fountain has a rich history dating back to the early 1900s when it earned the affectionate moniker "Frosh Pond" due to its involvement in campus pranks and traditions.

Over the years, Drumheller Fountain has not only been a site for student antics but also a haven for mallards to raise their ducklings. The installation of a duck ramp in spring aids the young ducklings in entering and exiting the fountain, fostering their growth and eventual independence. Despite past incidents, the fountain continues to be a place of community interaction and seasonal wildlife nurturing.

Preceded by the Geyser Basin during the 1909 Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition, Drumheller Fountain now symbolizes a simpler structure, a stone bowl that serves as a focal point on the university campus. While its design and purpose have evolved over the years, the fountain remains a historical and cherished landmark for students, visitors, and wildlife alike.

The fountain usually turns off around 5/6pm most days. Best to visit on a sunny day, yes we do have those in Washington, during the spring or summer. It's usually off during winter/fall.
