The Washington State Department of Labor and Industries offers a range of administrative and inspection services for the safety and security of more than 3 million workers in Washington. The department helps employers meet safety and health standards in their industrial establishments. It provides medical and limited wage replacement coverages to workers who suffer job-related injuries and illnesses. The department administers the Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act by developing and enforcing rules that protect workers from hazardous job conditions. Its inspectors visit more than 6,500 workplace and business sites that violate health and safety rules. The department inspects boilers, elevators and manufactured homes. The Washington State Department of Labor and Industries manages a staff of over 2,500 people.

The Washington State Human Rights Commission, also known as WSHRC, enforces law against discrimination. It works to prevent and eliminate discrimination by investigating civil rights complaints and providing education and training opportunities for citizens. Established in 1949 by the Washington State Legislature, the commission is a state agency. The Washington State Human Rights Commission prohibits discriminatory practices in the areas of employment and accommodation. In addition, it conducts fair housing and real estate acts. The commission organizes educational sessions and training seminals.
