Bellingham Public Works is a department operated by the city of Bellingham in Washington. The department has various divisions, such as engineering design and construction, parking, traffic transportation, utilities, water conservation information, bicycle and pedestrian advisory committee, and garbage, recycling and yard waste. The engineering section provides design and construction of the public works capital improvement program, and preserves the natural resources. Its parking service division offers information about short- and long-term parking in Bellingham; meter hood rentals, vehicle permits, parking rates and fines; parking infractions and automated pay stations. Its transportation division provides various services, such as street repairs, sweeping, grading, and maintenance of bridges, traffic signals and street lights, traffic safety and the speed watch program. The department s utility section constructs and maintains storm and surface water systems and operates programs and activities, including public education. The department of public works also prepares development guidelines and improvement standards manuals.

From traffic signals to wastewater treatment plants, the Public Works Department provides leadership in preparing, building and maintaining the infrastructure that provides for our community's needs today and for the generations of tomorrow. Engineering, street maintenance, water and sewer, and sanitation are four of the key areas the department plans and oversees. Maintaining a healthy infrastructure is necessary for enhancing our quality of life, and sustaining our community for years to come.Streets - The Street Division is responsible for maintaining all roads throughout the city to a safe, reliable and efficient condition. The division is also responsible for the maintenance crosswalks, sidewalks and wheelchair ramps assuring the safety of the pedestrian public. Programs include: sweeping, shoulder maintenance ( ditching, mowing, herbicide ), snow and ice removal, paving, pothole patching, striping, stop bars, and crosswalks.Solid Waste - The Solid Waste Division is responsible for the solid waste collection and disposal as well as the recycling program in the city.
