At the start of the twenty-first century, there were approximately 18,000 studios giving instruction in the dance art forms that individuals learn for enjoyment, in 2022 that estimate is almost 60,000. Despite the growing popularity for schools, the majority of people in the world learn to dance by watching and being guided. Students who attend dancing courses for fun range in age from preschoolers to elders. Preprofessional dance classes accept students who are chosen following an audition process, in contrast to recreational dance classes that are available to everyone. An amateur dancer may occasionally fall in love with a certain style and decide to pursue a career in it.
