Wasel Akbary, M.D., is an internal medicine provider with Johns Hopkins Community Physicians. Dr. Akbary received his medical degree from University of New England in Biddeford, Maine in 1995. He went on to complete his internal medicine residency program at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, a Tufts University Medical School Residency program, in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Akbary later completed his fellowship in Preventive Medicine with a Geriatric Medicine certificate program from Boston Medical Center, Boston University School of Medicine.Dr. Akbary enjoys the holistic approach to treating his patients. He loves the challenge of treating a variety of health conditions. Having the opportunity to make a difference in his patients’ mental and physical health brings him tremendous enjoyment.He and his wife have been married for almost 20 years and have three beautiful children. His oldest daughter graduated from Virginia Tech, his second daughter is studying at the University of Virginia, and his youngest son is in high school. In his free time, Dr. Akbary enjoys the outdoors – regularly going for long walks, hiking, biking and playing soccer with friends.

Sophie Presny, D.N.P., C.R.N.P., is a family nurse practitioner with Johns Hopkins Community Physicians. N.P. Presny has been providing holistic, family-centered care to children and adults in Northern Virginia since 2020. Prior to obtaining her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree, she practiced as a specialized, pediatric cardiovascular intensive care nurse within the Johns Hopkins Health System from 2016-2020. N.P. Presny demonstrates expertise in practicing preventive medicine and managing chronic illnesses for her patients across the lifespan. She has a particular passion for pediatric and women’s healthcare, enjoying the opportunity to provide evidence-based treatment and counseling on the topics of pediatric development, family planning and contraception, gynecological health and menopause. She considers it a privilege to provide compassionate care that empowers her patients to achieve their health and wellness goals throughout all life phases. When not in clinic, N.P. Presny enjoys spending quality time with her husband and daughter, camping, hiking and traveling. Her favorite way to relax is by enjoying a good book. She is a fluent Spanish speaker.

Anne Damian Yacoub, M.D., is a neurologist who specializes in both multiple sclerosis and headache. Her areas of expertise include the diagnosis and treatment of multiple sclerosis and other neuroimmunological disorders that involve the central nervous system. She is also an expert in acute and chronic management of headache disorders.Dr. Yacoub earned her medical degree from the University of Arizona College of Medicine, followed by a residency in neurology at the McGill University Health Centre. Dr. Yacoub spent one year studying the diagnosis and management of headaches as a Seymour Diamond Headache Medicine fellow in a combined program at the Diamond Headache Clinic and the Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago. She subsequently trained as a clinical and research fellow in the Johns Hopkins Department of Neurology, studying neuroimmunology and neurological infections.Dr. Yacoub’s research interests include studying migraine headaches in patients with multiple sclerosis.
