Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital is the region's only Level III trauma center, providing immediate, comprehensive and skilled medical and nursing care to the seriously injured patient. Trauma is the leading cause of death in the first four decades of life in the United States, surpassed only by cancer, heart disease and stroke as the leading cause of death in all age groups. The Hospital stands prepared 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year to provide trauma care to our community in accordance with the principles and practices taught in the Advanced Trauma Life Support Course sponsored by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma, and the Trauma Nursing Core Course sponsored by the Emergency Nurses Association
