The Newsome House Museum and Cultural Center in Newport News, VA, is a restored 1899 residence that once belonged to prominent African-American attorney J. Thomas Newsome and his wife Mary Winfield Newsome. Mr. Newsome's advocacy for education, voter registration, and community improvement made this elegant Queen Anne residence a historic fixture and a hub for social justice in the Commonwealth.

Today, the Newsome House serves as a museum showcasing Newsome's accomplishments and hosts exhibitions, special events, and community functions. Recognized as the first structure owned by an African-American to receive a National Historic Preservation Award, the museum continues to honor the legacy of the Newsome family and their contributions to the local African-American community.
