Riverside Health System, a private nonprofit corporation, is an organization of owned or contractually managed nonprofit and for-profit health care and associated support service facilities throughout eastern Virginia. The system s partnerships with physicians and health plans help individuals improve their health by providing access to comprehensive, cost-effective services. The services include programs in prevention and acute, long term, rehabilitative, ambulatory, managed, educational and home care. The system s individual services are grouped into primary, secondary and tertiary forms of care and are provided equitably without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin or ability to pay. Just a few of the system s many services include an ask-a-nurse program, cancer treatment services, home care, a mental health division, rehabilitation and therapeutic services and wellness and fitness programs. Riverside Health System began in December 1915 with the chartering of Newport News General and Non Sectarian Hospital.

Sentara Port Warwick - When Sentara introduced services at Sentara Port Warwick in 2002, Peninsula residents quickly came to appreciate a new level of care and convenience. The emergency department outside a hospital brought a much quieter, more convenient environment. Sentara Port Warwick also brought greater access and scheduling flexibility for services such a mammography, CT scans and colonoscopy - as well as the Peninsula's first hyperbaric oxygen treatment services.
