Park & Ride-King Street
The Alexandria Archaeology program focuses on the historical significance of the 500 block of King Street, which was the last of six urban renewal projects excavated in the 1960s and 1970s. This site reflects a rich tapestry of social, economic, and ethnic diversity, showcasing artifacts from various community members, including merchants, widows, and enslaved individuals.
Excavated in 1977 by former City Archaeologist Pamela J. Cressey and her team, the project highlights the area's historical importance as a commercial and political core since the 1780s. The findings contribute to a deeper understanding of Alexandria's past and the lives of its inhabitants through detailed archaeological research and community engagement.
