History
In 1976, hand surgeon Charles McDowell and spine surgeon Joseph Macys formed McDowell and Macys. They hung their shingle on Richmond's Grove Avenue, and soon thereafter became known as the place to go for specialty care in orthopaedics. Today, our practice includes ten Centers of Excellence for hand, wrist and elbow surgery, foot and ankle, joint replacement, sports medicine, spine disorder, occupational orthopaedic surgery, physiatry and electrodiagnostic medicine, interventional pain medicine, shoulder and cartilage restoration. We also provide physical and hand therapy at both West End and Southside locations. In the last five years, Advanced Orthopaedics opened the Sports Performance and Wellness Institute and two walk-in urgent care clinics, Ortho On-Call. As we enter our 40th year, we know that we are here because of the dedication of the 250 employees who diligently strive to offer our patients the best possible, sub-specialized orthopaedic care. The speediest ortho exam I have ever had. It was blindingly rapid and unnecessarily painful. Rude, uncaring and seemingly deaf. I love Advanced Orthopedics. Prior work on hand was a pleasant...
