Founded in 1842 and located in Roanoke, Va., Hollins University is one of the leading liberal arts colleges for women in the state. It is a private university and enrolls more than 800 undergraduates from over 45 states and nearly nine countries. The college offers a wide range of liberal arts and sciences program with over 25 majors. Its list of programs includes English and creative writing, psychology, communication studies, political science, biology, and special academic programs, such as education, premedicine, predental, prepharmacy, prephysical therapy, prelaw and preveterinary courses. It also offers various coeducational graduate programs, including children's literature, creative writing, dance, screenwriting and film studies, liberal studies, screenwriting and film studies, and teaching. It also offers various athletics, including baseball, basketball, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, lacrosse, tennis, volleyball and tennis.
