Welcome to Washington Funeral Home Thank you for visiting the website of Washington Funeral Home, Inc This site has been designed to be a simple yet powerful and informative tool for you to use. Since 1960 Washington Funeral Home, Inc has provided service with compassion, dignity and honor to families of Essex, King & Queen, Caroline, and the surrounding counties of the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula. Our Motto is "Sacred in Every Trust" and we take great pride in honoring our call to service, when providing personalized funeral services, traditional services, pre-need funeral arrangements, and cremation services. Since 1988 we have also provided Monuments/Memorials to families of our area through our Monument Company; Washington & Sons Memorials In the early 1930's, growing up in rural Caroline County, Oliver D. Washington, Sr.'s dream of becoming a funeral director began. As a child he played outside his uncle's home with his cousins. In those days there was no established licensed funeral home to care for the dead. His uncle's home was the home in the community that cared for the deceased members of the neighborhood and surrounding communities. As a child, young Oliver was not allowed to come inside while they prepared the remains for burial. This curiosity sparked an interest in caring for the deceased and their bereaved families and instilled in him a dream of one day becoming an undertaker. After Oliver's graduation from Union High School in Bowling Bowling GreenVA, he began his journey of becoming a licensed funeral director and embalmer by enrolling in Eckels College of Mortuary Science, Philadelphia, PA. After graduation Oliver was drafted into the U.S. Army. After two years of service to his country, and serving funeral director and embalming apprenticeships his dream was fulfilled. Oliver began his employment as a licensed funeral director and embalmer with employment in the Essex and King & Queen County communities. In King & Queen he worked for Mrs. Nannie Washington at the former Community Funeral Home, Newtown, VA. Also, in Essex County, he worked for the Corbin family at Corbin Funeral Home, Pauls Cross Roads, VA. Corbin Funeral Home was founded in the early 1900's by Mr. Charlie Corbin. Oliver eventually became the manager of this establishment and it became Washington & Corbin Funeral Home. Out of this rich heritage Oliver Washington in 1969 built his current location at 1404 Tappahannock Blvd. and established Washington Funeral Home, Inc In 1997 after retiring from a career in teaching, Oliver's wife Blanche Washington joined the firm full time. That same year, their youngest son Craig also joined the firm full time. Together with our caring staff we continued to provide loving and caring services to the families we serve in their time of need.
