Baptist Children's Home

Founded in 1890, Virginia Baptist Children s Home & Family Services provides a wide range of benevolent care for at-risk youth. It also cares for adults with development disabilities. The mission of the organization is to offer care and services to children, youth and adults throughout Virginia by providing placement, residential and supportive care. The Children's Home provides six distinct programs: emergency care offers immediate relief in times of crisis; developmental disabilities ministry provides Christian group homes across Virginia; foster care and adoption introduces children who need loving homes to the people who can provide them; Gus Mitchell School educates residents while they cope with their individual circumstances; residential care provides long-term opportunities for the spiritual, social, psychological and emotional growth of at-risk youth; and WOODS Programs (Wilderness Outdoor Opportunity Discovery Schools) teach discipline through high-adventure learning. The home is located in Salem, Va. It averages between 50 and 70 residents each day.
