Homeshare of Central Vermont

Home Share Now has a simple but profound mission: we arrange home share matches between central Vermonters who need some assistance to stay in their homes with other Vermonters who are looking for affordable housing. Every match is different, but generally speaking the home providers are older or disabled and need help with household chores like laundry, cooking, and snow shoveling. The home seekers are a varied group, from socially responsible young people to older adults in transition. They agree to do a certain amount of work around the house in exchange for a reduced monthly fee. Home Share Now helps participants write their own Home Share Agreement, and we check in from time-to-time to make sure the new arrangement is working smoothly. The home share goal is to help home providers and home seekers learn how to share their living space in a way that enhances each person's quality of life. We believe that every home seeker or home provider who comes to us for assistance has important needs, and we consider it a privilege to do our best to help all our participants. This takes a lot of time, and it's important to note that we can't provide emergency housing. Rather, our small staff and dedicated volunteers spend many hours conducting one-on-one interviews and reference checks, visiting homes throughout central Vermont, arranging introductions and matches between home providers and home seekers, and making follow-up phone calls and visits. The entire process is a collaboration among program participants, their families, and Home Share Now staff and volunteers. Staying at home for seniors and affordable housing for working Vermonters are large, complex issues. We address these issues on a very personal level, one home seeker and one home provider at a time. Home Share Now works with home providers in Lamoille, Orange and Washington counties and some adjoining communities in central Vermont. If you are interested in the northwest region of Vermont, including Burlington, you can contact HomeShare Vermont, which serves Chittenden, Addison and Grand Isle counties ( www.homesharevermont.org ). The National Shared Housing Resource Center ( www.nationalsharedhousing.org ) has information on home share programs throughout the United States. If you're looking outside this country, try Home Share International ( www.homeshare.org ). They are based in the United Kingdom, and their website has links to programs in eight countries. info homesharecvt.org My mom, a hardy native Vermonter, had reached the age where she needed someone to live with her, keep an eye on her, and help out around the house, someone I could totally trust. I found Home Share of Central Vermont. They helped me find Connie, who is doing a fabulous job looking after my mom. Kim
