The Retina Center of Vermont employs many ophthalmic assistants who have extended their training and have become certified by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology ( JCAHPO ). To become a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant ( COA ) one must complete 1000 hours of training under the supervision of the Retina Specialist. Once training is complete a COA must get re-certified through JCAHPO every two years.
