Dr. Weissgold selected each staff member for their outstanding ability in eye care and also for their love of being with people. Providing compassionate, quality care in an educational environment is what we're all about. The Retina Center of Vermont employs many ophthalmic assistants who have extended their training and have become certified by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology ( JCAHPO ). To become a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant ( COA ) one must complete 1000 hours of training under the supervision of the Retina Specialist. Once training is complete a COA must get re-certified through JCAHPO every two years.

Dr. Weissgold earned his medical degree from SUNY Health Sciences Center at Syracuse. He completed his residency at Scheie Eye Institute’s Department of Ophthalmology and his fellowship in Vitreoretinal Diseases and Surgery at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. Dr. Weissgold is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, and he has been practicing in Vermont since 1997.

Dr. Young earned her medical degree from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She completed her residency in Ophthalmology at McGill University in Montreal and her fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery at Cole Eye Institute. She is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and maintains a Certification in Ophthalmology with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. She has been practicing in Vermont since 2004.
