Christine Cliatt Brown, MD, is a Behavioral Neurologist and assistant professor in the Division of Cognitive Neurology. She specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of various types of dementia, such as Frontotemporal Dementia, Dementia with Lewy Bodies, Alzheimer’s Disease, and others. She has particular interest in young-onset dementia, Primary Progressive Aphasia, familial Frontotemporal Dementia, Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus, and atypical presentations of dementia. Her mission in clinical practice is to help provide her patients and their families with answers and a better understanding of the diseases they face. Dr. Cliatt Brown received her medical degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine. She completed her internship in internal medicine and residency training in neurology at the University of Utah. She then went on to do a fellowship in Behavioral Neurology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. At Mayo Clinic, her research focused on anomia in Primary Progressive Aphasia and visual hallucinations in Dementia with Lewy Bodies. After completion of her fellowship, she returned to the University of Utah. One of her primary goals is to help train a new generation of neurologists who understand the complexities and nuances in dementia diagnosis and treatment. Sarah Akkina, MD, MS, is an Assistant Professor and Director of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at University of Utah Health. Dr. Akkina’s clinical interests include, functional and cosmetic rhinoplasty, aging face (including surgical treatments and injectables), facial trauma, cancer reconstruction, facial nerve damage, congenital anomalies including microtia, and vascular malformations. Dr. Akkina is a Stanford fellowship-trained Facial Plastic and Reconstructive surgeon and a board-certified Otolaryngology - Head and Neck surgeon. Her passion for personalized patient care and surgical excellence helps her provide an exceptional experience for her patients. Dr. Akkina also teaches advanced surgical trainees and performs research in the field of facial plastic surgery focused on automating image analysis and improving clinical outcomes. While Dr. Akkina is a Colorado native, she left the region after high school to study and train throughout the country. She is an ivy league alumna of the University of Pennsylvania, a medical school alumna of the University of Michigan, and a residency graduate from the University of Washington. Melissa Cortez, DO, is a neurologist who has specialized expertise in neurological diseases affecting the autonomic nervous system (autonomic neurology), as well as multiple sclerosis (MS). She is board certified in neurology and clinical neurophysiology (EMG, nerve conduction studies, evoked potentials, and autonomic testing). Dr. Cortez is the director and founder of the autonomic physiology lab at the University of Utah and has integrated a research program into her clinical work, aiming to better understand the underlying physiology of symptoms her patients experience. This knowledge is aimed at improving diagnostic strategies, improved selection of treatment options, and improving outcomes.
