History

The Overlook Gallery, located in the heart of Moab's Center Street district, is housed in a structure built in the early Twentieth Century when Moab was still a Wild West outpost in the middle of a vast wilderness traversed by only the most intrepid adventurers. The building has been used for dozens of businesses over the years, mostly eating and drinking establishments. During the Prohibition years it was known as a place where patrons, in need of a medicinal remedy not exactly endorsed by the government authorities, could purchase a locally made elixir that would do the trick. And some of Moab's oldest residents still remember The Wagon Wheel Bar where local ranchers brought their irons to town and burned their brands onto the plank-wood face of the building. The brands still remain; reminders of a time when cattle raising...and rustling were a more prevalent occupation in the red rock canyons and plateaus of Southern Utah.
