He initially trained as a psychiatrist at the Bohnice Psychiatric Hospital in Prague, and subsequently worked as a psychiatrist and researcher at the Prague Psychiatric Center and later at the National Institute of Mental Health in Klecany, Czech Republic. After relocating to the United States, Doctor Melicher completed residency in general psychiatry at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, where he was selected for the research track in his final two years of training. He is interested in helping his patients lead fulfilling lives, as well as advancing the field of psychiatry through research and educating medical students and trainees. His research interests include neuro-imaging and neurobiology in psychotic and mood disorders, and he has presented his work at numerous national and international conferences, as well as given invited talks at universities in the United States.
