The Family History Library is located in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah. While not a great place for families with small children, the library is a must-see for anybody interested in genealogy. There is no other destination in the world where you can find out more than you ever knew about your family history.Parking and public transportation at the Family History LibraryParking can be a bit troublesome during rush hour traffic; however, while street parking is available, the best place to park is either underneath the City Creek Center mall on South Temple Street or in the garage underneath the LDS Conference Center on the north side of Historic Temple Square.Best and worst time to go to the Family History LibraryWhile the library itself is well-equipped to handle a large number of visitors, the surrounding streets can be stressful to manage during normal rush hour, usually between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. It's best to avoid the library then.Admission to the Family History LibraryIt does not cost anything to enter the library or use any of its services. In fact, the library is staffed with hundreds of volunteers that will help you whenever you want for however long you need. Depending on where you park, though, you could have to pay for parking.Must see/do at the Family History LibraryThe library is obviously the top place to see where your family came from. It can be overwhelming, though, if you've never done any genealogy before. Make sure you take time to meet with the volunteer staff at the library. They will be more than happy to to show you how to get started along with helping you every step of the way.Other places to visit near the Family History LibraryThe Family History Library is across the street from Historic Temple Square, the most visited attraction in Utah. In addition, the Utah State Capitol building is only a few blocks to the north while there are plenty of places to eat at the City Creek Center nearby.Insider tip for visitors to the Family History LibraryBe aware about visiting the library on evenings during the NBA season, which runs from late October to May. Energy Solutions Arena, home of the Utah Jazz basketball team, is only a block or two from the library and congestion can be heavy and parking can be more scarce during the home games.Author's bio: Clint Tustison lives has lived in Utah on and off for the past 20 years and will never grow tired of the great outdoors.
