Salt Lake County Highway Engineering Department is a government department operated by the Salt Lake County Department of Public Works. The department provides various public services, including road maintenance and repair, construction of roads and sidewalks and various other programs. Additionally, it issues encroachment, excavation, and event and film permits. It also provides license agreements for main lines, safer sidewalk program and traffic calming services. Through the traffic calming program it provides various measures for reducing negative effects of motor vehicle use, alter driver behavior and improve conditions for non-motorized street users.
