History1980's Crossroads Urban Center created two programs that gave people direct access to food. The first program took unused land and turned it into productive gardening space where people from the community could grow their own food. The second program supplied fresh carp from Utah Lake and surrounding rivers to the local refugee and immigrant population. In 1989, Wasatch Fish & Gardens becomes an official non-profit organization with 501(C)(3) status. In the mid 90's, we ended the fish program and changed our focus, mission, and name to Wasatch Community Gardens; however, with the exception of the fish program, what we have been doing from the beginning has been the same - giving people access to land to grow their own food, and educating adults and youth how to grow and eat healthy, organic, local food. We execute our mission and efforts through four main programs: Community Garden, Youth Garden, School Garden, and Community Education.SpecialtiesOur mission: To empower people of all ages and incomes to grow and eat healthy, organic, local food. Who we are: Wasatch Community Gardens has served Wasatch Front residents since 1989 with the belief that the quality of a community is directly related to the quality of its food.
