History

Beginning in 2002, Diana Wiley (executive director and founder) had a vision to help the poorest in Africa after hearing about the poverty in many countries throughout the continent. Five years after Wiley began helping Mozambique hospitals, True Vineyard Ministries was created. This nonprofit Christian organization provides holistic support to Africa's poorest, and purchases products made in Africa from 11 different countries. These products are brought back from Africa and are sold at Vineyard Marketplace.

Vineyard Marketplace is a social enterprise of True Vineyard Ministries, Inc. True Vineyard Ministries values creative enterprise as an effective solution to poverty. That is why we run Vineyard Marketplace, a fair trade boutique in San Marcos, Texas, that showcases a variety of products handmade by widows cooperatives, orphan-headed households, and other artisans working to say goodbye to poverty through hard work and creativity. True Vineyard Ministries abides by basic fair trade principles to ensure that we support efforts that provide workers and artists with fair wages. It is only by receiving a fair wage that the heads of households can provide for the many needs of themselves and their family. Vineyard Marketplace abides by the 10 Principles of Fair Trade endorsed by the World Fair Trade Organization in all of our partnerships with suppliers.
