Michelle Scerbo , MD

Michelle “Shelley” Scerbo, MD, is a board-certified general surgeon who specializes in bariatric and foregut surgery. This includes the treatment of obesity and obesity-related health conditions, as well as gastroesophageal reflux disease. She treats teenagers, adults, and older adults. Dr. Scerbo focuses on patient-centered care, shared decision-making, and opioid-sparing strategies for pain control when it comes to guiding her patients through their surgical journey. She also strongly values improving fairness in health care and incorporating new technologies. Her areas of specialty care include surgery of the esophagus and stomach (reflux/heartburn, ulcer disease, hiatal hernias, achalasia, and weight loss procedures for obesity, including revisional bariatric surgery). Her practice also includes surgery of the abdominal wall and hernia surgery (umbilical/ventral/femoral/inguinal hernia and abdominal wall reconstruction), as well as surgery for diseases of the gallbladder, small intestine, appendix, and colon. She serves on the Informatics Committee of the Surgical Infection Society.
