Tyler Junior College-West Campus

Tyler Junior College, founded in 1926, has an enrollment of more than 12,000 credit students and additional 20,000 continuing education students every year. It offers nearly 50 concentration options for associate degrees in applied science and arts and certificate of proficiency. The college also provides on-campus housing for more than 600 students in eight residence halls. Tyler Junior College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and offers nationally ranked intercollegiate athletic programs to students. The college runs alumni chapters in Dallas, Houston and Austin, Texas, and New York City. It has more than 30 student organizations and clubs, including concert chorus, forensics, cheerleaders and student senate. Located in Tyler, Texas, it is a Novell-certified partner for instruction of Novell networking courses.

Founded in 1990, The Literacy Council of Tyler, also known as LCOT, is an incorporated nonprofit organization that serves more than 2,500 adults annually and offers services to improve literacy skills. It provides services in collaboration with the Tyler Independent School District, Tyler Junior College, local churches, businesses and libraries. The organization offers general educational development preparation classes for youths. The Literacy Council of Tyler administers literacy classes that include adult and early childhood education for adults at Douglas Elementary. It also conducts the English as a Second Language program. The organization s programs serve out-of school and at risk youths.
