My life changed more than 20 years ago when I met a student midwife at school. I was enthralled by her stories of home births, and, wanting to know more, I bought the only two midwifery books that my local bookstore carried and devoured them. By the time I was finished with the first book, I knew I wanted to have any future babies with midwives. By the time I finished the second book, I knew I wanted to be a midwife.
