Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired has been operational for more than 50 years. Based in Austin, Texas, it serves as a special public school for students suffering from visual impairments and other disabilities. The school works in cooperation with several independent school districts, and provides special programs in the areas of self-care, mobility, communication, socialization, emotional adjustment to vision loss, career exploration, community integration, transition, and independent living. It also offers comprehensive school, short-term and summer programs, vocational training, curriculum development programs, transdisciplinary solutions, community-based instruction, and learning resource centers. Additionally, Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired provides training in compensatory skills, a modern low vision clinics, student health center and referral services.
