History
Sun Dragon Martial Arts was originally established as a Kyokushin Karate school for women and children. In 1998, the non-profit organization Everywoman's Self Defense was created to promote the self defense programs. In 2004, the two organizations were merged, and Sun Dragon Martial Arts & Self Defense, NFP was born. When the original founder retired, the new head instructor shifted the karate style to Seido, a style more focused on inner discipline than on competition and force. Sun Dragon has widened its focus over the years to include all adults and children and currently has a thriving student body ranging in age from 4 to 67. Sun Dragon never turns anyone away for lack of finances and maintains a scholarship fund just for that purpose. We teach self-defense workshops all over Austin to schools, businesses, and other organizations and believe that it is possible to end violence in our families and communities.
