400 Railroad Ave
Slaton, TX 79364
The historic Slaton Harvey House serves as bed and breakfast destination for many railroad and Harvey House enthusiasts. Being 10 minutes from Lubbock, it also offers an upgrade from chain hotel options, and is one of a very few fine B&Bs in this area. (We are a 501c3 non profit managed by the Slaton Railroad Heritage Association.) 5 bedrooms are lovingly appointed circa 1920s and 1930s, but with queen beds and modern baths. Let the occasional rumble from a passing freighter enhance your rest. Or give in an tap into our WiFi, who are we fooling here. Take a free guided tour through our fully-restored 1910 red, wooden caboose. Initially opened in 1912 as a Fred Harvey Eating Room along the Santa Fe Railway, it remained in service as a "Harvey House" until the mid '40s. The boom of cars and highways quickly drained the need for passenger trains. The Santa Fe Railway continued with freight stops in Slaton, however, and that gave the Harvey House a renewed purpose. For decades, the former Harvey House continued life as a freight depot. After the Slaton operation closed, the building sat unused until 1990, when it was to be demolished. At the last moment, locals gravitated to the potential loss and managed to save the Slaton Harvey House. Today, guests are treated to a luxurious time-travel experience. Breakfasts are custom order and the time of your choosing. Surrounding us is a vibrant little community with several restaurants (some with live music), the Slaton Museum/Antique Mall, the legendary Slaton Bakery and much more.
