In 1997, members of the Harper family and Philip Scanio established Scanio-Harper Funeral Home and built a new facility to serve the families of Central Texas.
Davis Harper, the previous funeral director in charge, was a fourth generation Temple funeral director whose great grandfather opened his first funeral home in downtown Temple in 1911. His grandfather and father opened their funeral home in Temple in 1964. Davis Harper retired in 2010 and died in 2017.
Philip Scanio worked for Davis' father and then continued in funeral service in North Texas until 1975 when he began his career in insurance.
In 2019, Scanio-Harper Funeral Home became a member of the Dignity Memorial ® network of funeral, cremation and cemetery services providers.
