He graduated from Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens, Ohio, completed his neurology residency at Temple University Hospital/Temple University School of Medicine's Department of Neurology in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and served as chief resident. Dr. Kumar completed fellowships in Neurology (focusing on adult and pediatric epilepsy) and in sleep medicine, both at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Prior to joining Methodist Physicians, Dr. Kumar started a private sleep medicine practice and has also been an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Neurology at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio. He is the recipient of several awards and honors, notably the Top Scholar Fellow award presented at the American Epilepsy Society meeting in 2007 during the first year of his Neurology fellowship.
