(RGEC) was established in 1945 to provide electric service to rural residents in Texas and New Mexico, covering a vast service territory of over 35,000 square miles, the largest for any electric cooperative in the contiguous United States. Today, RGEC continues to serve both rural and urban areas, including essential institutions such as hospitals and schools, while also operating the electrical distribution systems for Fort Bliss and Laughlin Air Force Base.
