Lisa Chen, MD, FACS, is a board-certified and fellowship-trained colon and rectal surgeon. She treats patients of all ages, focusing on nonsurgical options first and surgery as a second choice. She believes in listening to her patients, understanding their concerns, and helping them achieve their goals. Chen is an assistant professor in the Department of Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. She’s a member of several professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, the Harris County Medical Society, and the Texas Medical Association. She has received numerous awards throughout her career, including Castle Connelly Top Doctors 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016; Vitals Patients Choice Award 2013; Health & Fitness Sports Magazine’s Doctor’s Choice 2009; and the Consumer Research Council of America’s Top Physicians 2004-2005. Outside of work, Chen enjoys knitting, karate, yoga, and spending time with her husband and two children.

Mark J. Pidala, MD, FACS, extensive experience in both laparoscopic and robotic colon and rectal procedures. He performs all surgeries on the colon, rectum, and anus, as well as routine and advanced colonoscopies. Dr. Pidala moved here in 1998 and was one of the first colon and rectal surgeons in Houston to perform minimally invasive laparoscopic colon resections. Dr. Pidala is an assistant professor of surgery at the The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth). He plays an active role in the education of the residents enrolled in the colon and rectal surgery program at the University of Texas. He has published numerous peer reviewed articles and book chapters. Dr. Pidala received his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati Medical School and completed his residency in general surgery at Akron City Hospital in Akron, OH. From there, Dr. Pidala completed a residency in colon and rectal surgery at UMDNJ/Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, NJ. When not seeing patients or teaching, Dr. Pidala enjoys spending quality time with his wife and three children, traveling, and exercising.
